An old sea story tells of a ship’s captain who inspected his sailors, and afterward, told the first mate that his men smelled terrible. The captain suggested the sailors change their underwear occasionally.
The first mate responded, “Aye, aye sir! I’ll see to it right away!”
The first mate then went directly to the sailors and exclaimed, “The captain thinks ye smell bad and wants ye to change ye underwear.”
The men were a bit confused.
The first mate continued, “Carter, change with Williams! McHenry, change with Big John! Blackmon, change with Stanley.”
Unfortunately, that’s what a lot of people do to get new life: they change something on the outside hoping it will bring about transformation on the inside. There’s no sense in changing clothes if it’s the body that stinks!
