Snakes can lead to really big problems, which is why they’re best handled by experts. When ridding themselves of the slithering nuisances, do-it-yourselfers face the risk of getting bit, getting hurt, or even getting killed.
Or, like one woman in Texas, they can even cause you to burn down your house.
In March of 2013, an unnamed woman in Bowie County was cleaning up her yard when she spotted a snake. Wanting to get rid of the pest, she did what any irrational pyro would do: she doused the snake in gas and then struck a match.
Hey, if you’re gonna kill a snake make a spectacle of it….
The poor snake was quickly engulfed in flames and began to thrash around until it landed in a pile of brush near the base of the woman’s home. Consequently, it wasn’t long before the woman’s house was also engulfed in flames.
The local fire department was notified, but when they arrived, there was little they could do. Flames had all but destroyed the home, and the fire raged so intensely that a neighboring house even sustained damages. Authorities claim that the woman’s story is under investigation. Unfortunately for her, she was cleaning the property to sell it. On top of her (strange) loss, officials and her neighbors might even file charges.
Moral of the story? Let experts deal with snakes!
Take Jesus for example. He’s an Expert when it comes to dealing with snakes.
Our first ancestors, Adam and Eve, had a terrible snake problem (as recorded in Genesis 3). No, the serpent didn’t cause them to burn down their home, but the reptile did cause them to roast their relationship with God.
As the dust was settling, God warned that there would always be hostility between humans and the slithering troublemaker. God also prophesied that the serpent would finally be overcome by an Expert, namely, His Son, Jesus Christ:
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel. (Genesis 3:15)
Easter – Jesus death, burial, and resurrection – is when the serpent’s head was finally crushed. God had used an Expert to deal with the Snake of all snakes. So should you.
