Anyone with siblings knows what it’s like to argue with their brothers/sisters. They also know what it’s like to get caught by their mother doing it.
But Dallas and Brad Woodhouse took it to another level. Their mom busted them on TV!
Dallas Woodhouse is the president of Carolina Rising, a group focused on promoting conservative values in his home state of North Carolina. His brother, Brad Woodhouse, heads Americans United for Change, a liberal group that stands for the opposite on just about everything. In December of 2014, they were both invited as guests to appear on C-SPAN’s Washington Journal. The two brothers debated several policies from President Obama’s administration but clashed most fiercely on the Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”).
The program’s format allowed viewers to interrupt the brothers’ conversation by calling in with their comments and questions…which made their exchange even more combative. But everything came to a head when the show’s host introduced “Joy” from Raleigh, North Carolina.
At first, Dallas was excited about a caller from his home state. “Hey! Somebody from down south!” The elderly woman on the line quickly confirmed, “Well, you’re right I’m from down south.” And that was the exact moment when Dallas’ excitement disappeared completely. “Oh God! It’s Mom!” he said as he buried his head in his hands.
The woman confirmed that she was, in fact, the boys’ mother. She went on to share her disappointment in their behavior and their treatment of one another. With the Christmas season fast approaching, Mrs. Woodhouse made appeals to their sensibilities of family and peace. “I was very glad that this Thanksgiving was the year that you two were supposed to go to your in-laws. And I’m hoping you’ll have some of this out of your system when you come here for Christmas. I would really like a peaceful Christmas. And I love you both.”
We need to remember that when it comes to politics, disagreements are bound to exist. But we are obligated to remain civil in the midst of them.
