A young married couple was invited to the home of elderly friends for dinner. During the meal, the younger husband noted how the older husband preceded every request to his wife with an endearing name such as “Honey,” “Darling,” “Sweetheart,” etc.
The younger man knew the host couple had been married for 60 years and he was greatly impressed by their continued love for one another.
While the wives were in the kitchen, the young man leaned over to his elderly host and said, “I think it’s wonderful that, after all these years, you still refer to your wife by such loving names.”
The older man quickly replied, “I have to tell you the truth. Her name slipped my mind about 10 years ago, and I’m scared to death to ask the cranky old broad what it is.”
