It’s hard to go wrong with humility; it’ll get you things arrogance and pride never can.
Commander Watkins found himself in need of a few coins so he walked up to Private First Class Dewey Jones. The officer asked the young private, “Solider, do you have change for a dollar?”
Private Jones reached into his pocket, fished around for a moment, and replied, “Sure, bud.”
Commander Watkins was taken aback. “That’s no way to speak to an officer. Now, let’s try that again. Do you have change for a dollar, solider?”
Without missing a beat, Private Jones said, “No, sir I don’t.”
