Christianity offers all kinds of churches: family churches, denominational churches, traditional churches, contemporary churches, emerging churches, and even mega churches. All of these churches have their own characteristics and personality.
But nothing compares to the “country church.”
If you’ve never been to a country church, you probably need a heads up. Here’s a simple list of ways you can tell if a church is a “country church.” You know you’re in a country church…
when the pastor preaches on Jesus feeding the 5,000, and people wonder whether it was bass or catfish that were used.
when the pastor asks Bubba to offer the benediction and 5 different men stand up.
when opening day of huntin’ season is recognized as an official church holiday.
when a member of the church requests to be buried in his 4WD truck because “It ain’t never been in a hole it couldn’t get out of!”
when the pastor wears boots…the same boots he milks cows in.
when there is no such thing as a “secret” sin.
when baptism is referred to as “branding.”
when finding and returning lost sheep is more than just a parable.
