Emmitt Smith is a legend in many football circles. The record-breaking running back rushed for 164 touchdowns and scored more than 1,000 points during his career in the NFL. Those are some big numbers for #22.
But they’re not his most impressive stats…not by a long shot.
Emmitt Smith was an All-American running back with the Florida Gators before he donned the star of the Dallas Cowboys. In 1990, his first year with “America’s Team,” he won Rookie of the Year, and never looked back. In four different seasons, he was the leading rusher for the entire league. In fact, across his career, he gained a total of 18,355 yards for his team’s offense.
Umm…that’s 10.4 miles!
No one else in the history of the game has more yards than #22. What’s amazing is that Emmitt Smith gained all those yards 4.3 yards at a time. Yep, his average carry was a mere 4.3 yards. That means he was tackled thousands of times, but always got back up again…to do it all over again.
That’s one of the biggest reasons he’s a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame…who also owns three Super Bowl rings.
