During the off season, an umpire in a softball league in Colorado was stopped by a cop for speeding. He pleaded for mercy, explained that he was a very safe driver, and told the cop why he absolutely had to be in such a hurry. The officer didn’t buy it. “Tell it to the judge,” he said as he handed the umpire a ticket.
When softball season resumed, the umpire was officiating his first game when the batter who walked up to the plate was none other than the merciless cop who had written him a ticket months earlier. The two men recognized each other, and it was a bit awkward for the cop.
“So, how did it go with the whole ticket thing,” asked the police officer.
“Better swing at everything,” said the ump.
