Guys are competitive by nature. We see everything as a chance to one-up each other…regardless of the situation. This terrible condition begins all the way back in childhood, and sadly, we never seem to outgrow it.
If you want proof, just check out this conversation between a few young boys.
Blake, Dylan, and Zach were standing around on the playground bragging about their fathers. Blake threw down the gauntlet with this statement: “My dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, calls it a poem, and people give him hundreds of dollars for it!”
But Dylan wasn’t about to back down from Blake’s challenge. He matter-of-factly said, “That’s nothing! My dad jots down some words on a piece of paper, calls it a song, and he gets thousands of dollars for it!”
Zach put his hands on his hips, stared down both of his friends, and then said, “I got you both beat! My dad writes down a few words on a piece of paper, calls it a sermon, and it takes eight grown men to collect all the money he gets for it!”
If only it were that simple….
