During Dan’s visit to the retirement home to scope it out on behalf of his father, he asked the director, “How do you determine whether or not a person should be institutionalized?”
“Well,” said the director, “that’s simple. First, we fill up a bathtub with water. Then we tell the person their job is to empty the bathtub while offering them a spoon, a cup, or a bucket.”
“Oh, I understand,” Dan said. “A normal person would use the bucket because it’s bigger than the spoon and the cup.”
“No,” said the director. “A normal person would just pull the plug. Do you want a bed near the window?”
