The Lone Ranger and his trusty sidekick Tonto were camping, getting some much-deserved rest after saving a town from bank robbers and other villainous men of ill repute. After setting up camp, both heroes fell asleep in their tent.
Some hours later, Tonto woke the Lone Ranger. “Kemo Sabe, look at sky. What you see?”
The Lone Ranger replied, “I see millions of stars.”
“What that tell you?” gruffed Tonto.
The Lone Ranger pondered the question for a moment and answered, “Astronomically speaking, it tells me there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets. Astrologically, it tells me that Saturn is in Leo. Theologically, it’s evident our Creator God is all-powerful. Meteorologically, it seems we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. What does it tell you, Tonto?”
Tonto says, “It tell me somebody stole our tent, pale face!”
The Lone Ranger observed a lot…but was missing the whole point! A lot of people commit the same mistake when they read the Bible; they see a lot of “information,” but neglect to see how the truth found in it greatly affects them!
This problem is at least 2,000 years old; the religious leaders of Jesus’ day never understood the truth in His parables, either.
